Solan is a surprise entry on India’s 2026 list of richest districts. One of the most picturesque districts in Himachal Pradesh, it has built its wealth through pharmaceutical manufacturing and industrial development rather than tourism or technology. The district is set amid pine forests and is known for its pleasant climate and colonial-era charm.
It shares the list with far larger, better-known economic centres. Rangareddy, the district surrounding Hyderabad, tops the chart by GDP per capita, benefiting from the city’s booming IT sector and serving as a gateway to attractions including Charminar and Golconda Fort. Gurugram, Haryana — India’s corporate capital, home to Fortune 500 companies and luxury hotels — takes the second spot.
India’s financial capital, Mumbai district, also remains among the country’s richest, offering travellers the Gateway of India, Marine Drive and Colaba alongside its Bollywood glamour. Ahmedabad, Gujarat, built on manufacturing, textiles and entrepreneurship, rounds out the list with its UNESCO-listed heritage neighbourhoods and the Gandhi Ashram.
The full ranking is based on 2026 district-level economic indicators and GDP-per-capita data, according to an analysis by Inframantra.
