DP World’s latest bet: an Indian startup that manufactures water from humidity
Dubai's DP World has taken a 14% equity stake in Maithri Aquatech, a Hyderabad company whose 'Meghdoot' systems extract potable water from atmospheric humidity.
Dubai-based logistics and supply chain giant DP World has made a strategic investment in an Indian water technology startup, picking up a 14% stake in Hyderabad’s Maithri Aquatech Private Limited for an undisclosed sum.
Maithri Aquatech manufactures atmospheric water generators, branded ‘Meghdoot’, which produce potable water directly from humidity in the air, reducing dependence on conventional water sources and infrastructure. The company said DP World’s investment will help it pilot the technology in real-world operating environments across varied geographies, including logistics and industrial settings.
“The strategic investment of DP World reflects a shared belief that water security is not a peripheral challenge — it is central to the resilience of global trade, communities and ecosystems,” said Ramkrishna Mukkavilli, founder and managing director of Maithri Aquatech.
The investment is being read as part of a broader pattern of growing India-UAE collaboration in sustainability, trade and innovation. Maithri’s headquarters, production and R&D operations remain based in Hyderabad.
