Lucknow’s BBAU Just Posted Its Best Postgraduate Admission Numbers In 4 Years

Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Lucknow has recorded 18,589 postgraduate applications for 2,611 seats this year, its highest tally in four years.

Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) in Lucknow has recorded its highest number of postgraduate admission applications in four years, receiving 18,589 applications for 2,611 available seats this admission cycle.

The university had received 15,965 applications last year, while the number of candidates who actually paid the admission fee in 2023 and 2024 stayed close to 15,000 in both years. Admissions to BBAU’s 55 postgraduate programmes are conducted through CUET-PG, the entrance test used by central universities across India.

Prof Amit Kumar Singh, the university’s admission coordinator, said the numbers were ‘really encouraging’ for BBAU, particularly because they come at a time when CUET-PG interest has fallen nationally. ‘Last year, around 5.5 lakh candidates registered for admissions to central universities across the country, but the number has dropped to 3.5 lakh this year. Despite this decline, applications to BBAU are showing an increasing trend,’ he said.

Competition for some of BBAU’s postgraduate courses has become intense, with certain programmes attracting more than 40 applicants for every seat on offer.

The MCA programme drew the highest interest of any course, with 2,031 applications for 60 seats, followed by the MBA programme, which received 1,855 applications for 90 seats. ‘Our professional programmes continue to dominate student preference,’ Singh said.
